What were you expecting?
I haven't read most of the chapters, I decided to pick 50 since that seemed a good number to check if anything was actually happening and, this and the last one seemed good, actually saw progress.

What do you mean? It's gone in exactly the direction you'd expect from the genre (aka Harem style HS romance). I'd say it's on the better side as well, since it doesn't rely so heavily on tropes and being unserious to an extreme degree/over playing the harem aspects. It feels pretty natural compared to most.

They "expected" a regular love triangle between "girl with her name in the title" and "childhood friend the protag has a crush on" not just adding in more girls and going full blown harem nonsense when the original setup was already pretty great

The only girl added in the game was Kana, and it's been what, 40+ chapters already... No other girl with romantic interest towards the the MC was introduced yet...
