Is it actually legal in Japan to have such young minors serve as servants of other young minors?
Clearly, this entire chapter is filled with most quæstionable antics:
- Mitunaga: for caring about this gender stuff — what pitiful man cares about whether a garment be "for boys" or "for girls", so long as it look good?
- Mitunaga's family: for forcing a garment upon a man who does not want it, simply because it's tradition
- Hiro's family: for forcing a man, a minor at a critical stage in his development, no less, to serve as the attendant another, simply because it's tradition — is he even financially compensated for this service? And even if he were? Certainly full time employment at this age is detrimental to his academic performance? What irresponsible parenting, to have one so young his time dedicated to full time professional employment, for the sake of "tradition".
