Hmmm, with the text surrounding hikaru saying "leave her to die" im assuming she had some part in Hina's original disappearance.

Maybe, Hina slipped and hit her head while playing with Hikaru in an area they weren't supposed to be, and instead of rushing to get help Hikaru didn't want to take responsibility or get in trouble, so she left Hina there.

Maybe its something less direct, or maybe her guilt is simply from not keeping hold of her like she mentioned in the previous chapter. Certainly doesn't seem like she was that involved in her disappearance like in my former theory from how she's been acting up to this point.

The text also says "Can't be Hina" I wonder what else she knows about Hina's original disappearance that makes her think this.

They're being fucked with by a spirit. That's my best guess here. Hallucinations, sudden pain without wounds, drowning (but not really?) in ankle-deep water after seeing a piece of cloth in the water. The spirit is probably of a person who drowned. They're cloth outfit is dripping water but the river wasn't high enough to soak a person from head-to-toe like that and they would have seen them in the water earlier if that person was real. The sign warning of sudden water level rises was likely installed after a tragic death. Our heroines have uknowingly stumbled into the domain of a resentful spirit.

The one thing I don't get, is the strangle marks on her neck when she "drowned" but not really. As if to imply the spirit was a person that was strangled to death in the river or their body was dumped into the river after being mudered.

This shit is wild 0_0
