Daamn... That's so rough for Ren, not being able to be himself.

@Weetch I somehow don't think he is. It's actually pretty common for gay people to have a period where they're convinced that it was something they'd grow out of. Usually from pressure in society or whatnot or shame about who they are. They try to force it. It usually results in a marriage with absolutely passionless sex and deep misery.

Thankfully we're starting to move away from that being normal.

This actually puts things in perspective. Maybe we will see how much does he knows about the other girls bullying Hina.

At first I thought he knew the extent of it and was trying to not get involved or something but now with this chapter I think perhaps the reason he was trying to look away and distance himself as much as he could from her wasn't because of the bullying, but because he actually knew that if he got close and found all about hina's problems he would use that all as an excuse to change with her and use her, until at some point he may not even desire to change back with her.

@Weetch

This is also during middle school. I think he is well beyond that 'maybe I can be straight' stage.

@Babydel yeah I'm pretty slow at understanding this. I realised it was a flashback after the first mention i got. Which was 3 hours after my first comment.

@SightWarden It's even more nuanced than that: He feels his interacting with Hina is emotionally damaging to her. Much like a recovered alcoholic often swears off touching any booze lest they relapse, Ren feels if he distances himself from Hina, she won't be tempted into that self-sacrificing mindset she gets into around Ren. I don't know how much he knows about the bullying, but he likely doesn't know what else to do. And as far as he knows, Hina doesn't really get anything out of the swap, as she's essentially "bodysitting" for him. (Although I do find it nice there is the small joy she's found in playing sports as Ren and hanging out after school, even if she probably feels really awkward about being a boy)

I'm just afraid this is going to end with Hina Changing with Ren and jumping off a roof to "force" Ren to be "happy" by living as Hina and marrying Makoto.
Hopefully the nurse girl can help the two of them.
