It's retroactive continuity; in the earlier chapters Koguma clearly did not consider that to be a factor; in earlier chapters they were holding hands already and Koguma remarked that others are thinking that they are dating and did not bring up the “But we're both girls” blatherskite.

Same-sex marriage isn't legal in the country, and same-sex contracts are only allowed in a few prefectures. If you want yuri where the girls are fucking, you should probably go with the stuff on e-hentai.org. Manga like this one run in mainstream magazines/apps/etc. and simply won't go that far. Especially when they're not adults.

No, because it's a blatant revise of Koguma's original personality and because this series has been revising and retconning for a while now to milk it.

Perhaps, but I have no interest in this “sexual orientation” crap in my stories and it originally didn't go that route. Koguma originally considered Hino a love interest, or at least realized that others considered them as such without this “But we're both girls.” nonsense entering.

I see this series has been going on so much now and revised it's own progress so much that you've completely forgotten they were far further than this half way of where the story currently is.
They already held hands before, with everyone watching, and Koguma already remarked that they must be thinking that they were dating, and he didn't come with “But we're both girls.” there.

Earlier on Koguma's remarks like that were her saying it might look that way to others, but not caring because she didn't feel attracted to Hino. Now she's more conscious of the fact that it feels that way to her, so she's embarrassed to go along with it. I went through this myself growing up, Koguma's acting quite realistically. You should definitely drop this, wouldn't want anything to damage your fragile world view.

Dude, Koguma has been saying how cool Hino is, sending the latter risqué pictures, contemplating what life would be like, were they dating, but concluding that Hino was too cool for him, wanting to sniff Hino and what-not.

It's realistic for idiots who think gender is the centre of world and everything in human existence, including love, needs to be measured relative to gender.
It turns out Koguma's character has been retconned into an idiot, though there were definitely already signs of this such as his caring about his flat chest.
