man, author almost gave me another heart attack. Glad bro married her and wasn't a dream.
Honestly one of the best sport manga I have read. Kinda sucks that his other new series ended up axed, It was interesting and the characters shared the same universe. was hoping to see unimaru's kids wrecking havoc.

I appreciate you guys uploading this, especially the epilogue which is notorious to track down, but I'm a little confused how MangaPlus no longer has the license when I can still see the manga listed on their web site...

This may not help this much, since I live in a Spanish speaking territory (although I do read the English TLs from different Jump series), but - technically, at least in the app for me, the title does not have the "MAX Deluxe" banner (for completed series that were on simulpub in the app), which basically is communicating to me "you see, this series is completed... but the rest of the series? Nah."

So, you are telling me I couldn't read it (officially) IF I had a subscription?

I dunno. I don't think it's an ex-license per se (as it's still listed on Mangaplus with 6 free preview chapters), but a weird secret second thing that's on Shueisha's side of blaming. I was believing this might have been because "catching on" on simulpub series that finished that same year would make it excempt for this model? or smth... (the first 6 chapters were uploaded in Jan. 2019, and I see the series finished in July, barely 6-7 months later), but Food Wars also finished in 2019, and the MAX Deluxe banner is there (although I see that from ch 15 onwards, all of their chapters were reuploaded to Mangaplus in March 2023). And ever since they updated the app to introduce the subscription models, I have ALWAYS thought Hinomaru Sumo was, probably, left out by a bug or smth, lmao. But here we are, a year or so later and I still don't see a banner to read it through subscription.

It’s a bit confusing, but let me try and explain further.

Initially, when Manga Plus started, the setup was that every WSJ title (aside from Yuuna) was translated. Viz licensed all of them except for David, Japan, and Hinomaru. When those three ended, because they were only translated midway Manga Plus removed all but the first few chapters for them.

When they established the subscription service, they added Japan and David back in because they just needed to translate five new chapters each. But Hinomaru was 25 volumes in, so Shueisha wasn’t willing to commission someone to translate all of it.

In essence, while Manga Plus technically still has the rights to Hinomaru, the chapters they translated for it haven’t been on there for years.
