If they wanted despair, why not go with currently depressed people instead of people who have traumatizing pasts? Or soft hearted people who are adverse to killing but forced to do so to live? or just have a program that estimates average yield and work from there? traumatizing pasts seems way too inaccurate given how people could have forgotten those pasts or moved on from them. And I mean, it ranges from "girl who was bullied" to whatever Adachi's past was. Surely someone out there had a worse past than the siscon duel that could have taken her place. Someone who was bullied but not saved.

But nobody reacted to anything that the game provides in any way so I don't think PTSD is the reason. the only ptsd that was triggered was Adachi's but that's not the game that did that, but Akiba.

Depressed people I could see not working but then again, it doesn't have to be a game, if despair's all they want. just put a depressed person in their virtual torture chamber and milk all its worth. or don't and just make him sit there being depressed out of boredom or something. yeah... I should probably stop questioning things.

Well, they are people who had troubled pasts, has just finally recovered, but then their life is going to shit again.

A depressed person would probably choose the game as their escape, hoping to feel something out of it or something might change. People being forced to kill are going to feel guilt or empowerment, not despair.

So, it's basically Pennywise but instead flesh seasoned with fear it just likes despair.

And no Shubuya, it wasn't a "little girl" it's just that form was most intimidating because the Tiddy Neko or Killer Bear, isn't that scary as something innocent yet malicious.
