Honestly if he wants to go anywhere with this story, he needs a time skip. At this pace the author would die long before he reaches the point of Philipps death.

September!?
@Doomroar he's the "creepy guy" that had the whale skeleton and specimens in glass jars, he was living alone in this big-ass museum of sorts
The girl came by looking for Aristotle, he said "he's here" and tried to poison her

@ThinkPositive Yeah! thanks man, i went and did a quick re-read.

So for anyone lost like me he appears on the chapters 37 and 38 "Island of Lesbos - Biological Institute", they are the chapters in direct chronological continuation to chapter 3, so it goes chapters 1-3 then 37-38, well technical is the direct continuation to chapter 1.

However i can't remember if he appears again later on, or if this is the first time we are seeing him and Barsine, the woman that was chasing Aristotle again.

As for Barsine, she even appears in the cover of volume 4, she seems to be quite a great deal? She is described as the wife of the governor of Troius she is quite smart and wise, and yet I barely remember her from anything other than failing to get Aristotle back then.

Reading her Wikipedia article she is the niece of Mentor of Rhodes and Memnon of Rhodes, and eventually marries them both, this is important because Memmon is the second character that we see appear in the manga, the first being Eumenes holding the bronze snake.

And talking about her
She would eventually become a mistress of Alexander, and be the mother of one of his illegitimate sons, Heracles, but! that only happens after her 2 husbands die, and she is send to the Achaemenid Empire as a hostage, and then the Achaemenid Empire falls to Macedonia, and THEN, she gets with Alexander so... she probably wont be relevant for another 30 years! Iwakii could perfectly die before finishing this just trying to tell Barsine's story and she is clearly not the main character

This leads me to Alkenol, could this creepy guy be the same man that is being tortured at the very start of chapter one? the guy being tortured is addressed as Hermias an eunuch that had "his daughter" killed in front of him, but to me he looks a lot like Alkenol.

Anyway Hermias is being questioned by Memmon about his teacher, and i assume that teacher is Aristotle, since Hermias is saying that the earth was round and had a circumference of 400,000 stadia. Plus Alkenol back in Lesbos was protecting Aristotle by trying to poison Barsine, and giving her bad directions.

Also have we seen Memmon again apart from chapter one?

Anyway... I am still kind of lost, clearly Aristotle being hunted under suspicion of being a spy by the Persians is something that should be resolved at one point, but i really can't remember who Alkenol was, and why Barsine seems to be so important yet forgettable. If anyone manages to re-read and find out please comment here. To think that after practically 20 years and 100 chapters they are appearing again out of nowhere.

Starbuck was not joking, you do need perfect memory and superb patience to follow this manga.

@Doomroar Memnon and Barsine appear in chapter 69, and I believe we haven't seen Alkenol since the institute.

After not having read this series since batoto, and being unsure of where I was, I reread the whole thing. I remembered little from before that, now I remember basically everything

@havelmom
Welcome to Iwaaki's raw versions. Since he take so much time working on different projects, most of his work in their pre-publication is very raw. I've been reading Historie since the batoto era and it was pretty common. I reread it recently and I was happy to see that some team worked on editing the finished product.

I wish Iwaaki would just concentrate on Historie and accelerated his pace. The three month period was fine when he did 30p chapters, his last two barely reach that amount... Did anyone read anything on Iwaaki's state of mind on that peculiar work? Is he quitting ?

And thanks to the translators !

I'm unsure how much of the plot has actually followed the life events of the real Eumenes (or what's known of it at least) but if it does then
those children won't need much looking after for long, or King Philip either, for that matter
