Y’all are the ones being tone deaf, obviously something wasn’t quite right from the start, but some Junji-ass cosmic horror twist is so comedically outta right field for the story thus far, it’s pretty obvious why some people are miffed.

You'd think this would be easily verifiable, considering his ship has some powerful computer inside. Plus I believe it was said he had to travel for millennia, so millions of years are right out. And millennia wouldn't be enough to completely erase all traces of our existence - obvious archaeology aside, our stone monuments would take hundreds of thousands of years to fully erode. So unless the mangaka didn't even consider such things I'd say it's unlikely.

Not sure if a millennia was ever mentioned in the manga, I don't recall that being mentioned, but going through the story again, Chapter 3:
"I'm no astrophysicist, but if Hitoshi's words are to be believed, his planet is likely already gone, as his journey itself seems to have exceeded its lifespan."

If Hitoshi was frozen, suspended animation, cryogenic state, whatever you want to call it, for 1000 years (the time you say he travelled for), and his ship was travelling at 99.999999% the speed of light, approximately 2.24 million years would have passed on Earth.

Earth will become uninhabitable in about 1 billion years when the temperature from the Sun rises enough to burn off all the water from our planet, and totally destroyed when the Sun becomes a Red Giant and its size grows beyond our current orbit in about 4 to 5 billion years.

That's plenty of time for a couple million or so years to have gone by, current animal life to evolve, and humans and thier society as a whole to have long died out without much of any remnants left, as well as the continents to have shifted to look different enough, and the planet still being in the habitable range. 2.24 millions years is a drop in the bucket compared to 1 billion years.

Lots of ifs there, but I get your point. We just don't have any info to properly speculate on. I'd just like to note that "I'm no astrophysicist" is the key part here, I wouldn't trust an opinion of a race that haven't even figured out how to properly seal an engine yet on anything not strictly terrestrial.

I have a hypothesis. What if this is just a rehash of "Planet of the Apes", and he is back on Earth, not just a couple hundred, or couple of thousand years later, but tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even a million or 2 years later, enough time for every animal to anthropomorphize and build a society, as well as the continents to change, and humans to go extinct.

And yes, this sudden change out of no where seems to me as a grasp to keep interest in the manga going. It's just so out of place compared to the previous chapters.

Yeah, there's that possibility as well. Going back to my idea of 'he's back on Earth', could be humans were dieing out, and genetically manipulated and evolved many of the current life forms. Which would explain why they all appear as anthromorphic versions of many current day animals, and how they all seemed to have simultaneously evolved at the same time.

Could also be the usual creator issue of being unable to come up with alien life forms that actually look different then anything we know on Earth, if he really is on a different planet. Everything is humanoid shaped, walks on 2 legs, and resembles some animal we are all already familiar with. At least it's not the Star Trek way, where every alien looks human, but with pointy ears, or ridges on thier forehead or nose.

I mean, cough as a "Kemoner"/Furry, I consider him as closer to a "Therian". Although in this case "Kemo" and "Hito" is closer in mind (unlike human and animal IRL), but honestly, he is obsessed to be come a hito.

This always felt kind of deep, with even scientific speculation and all. I dont know what were the others been reading.

I might add onto this. But we know the Kemo world is suffering from global cooling. My theory is that humanity got wiped from intense cilmate change due to global warming. Like with tempture what goes up most go down and thus the cooling began. Considering Kemo society didn't look like a socity to industialized real hard, the cooling of the planet continues on.
Personally its strange how they brought this up as one of their main global concerns, unsure if there is a payoff to it.
