Made an account specifically so I could talk about this manga. Absolutely adore the concept (the animals could be any species but the setting is perfect)

Now onto my thoughts. We are either going full blown into “careful what you wish for” hindsight depression and corruption of the planets way of life (basically the paranoid lion is right) or it’ll just barely miss and everything will be sunshine and rainbows feel good story.

I’m inclined to believe the former. The full black in hitos eyes indicating how dark his thoughts and worries for the future are, but this chapter is imo the first real turning point. It’s laid the typical groundwork for a major shift in tone latter on in the series. The initial disputes with the miners over mineral rights, the fact that we are hearing other nations start to push for monopolies on hito etc. this is a perfect recipe for a classic tale of how unforeseen consequences come from the best intentions.

Do I think it’ll start going wild next chapter? No but this has laid the ground work for a fantastically dark story much later down the line. The lion will start gaining supporters, disputes over mineral rights land and hito will drive people to start distrusting each other and when it finally boils over a single push will set off murder wars etc with no way to turn back the clock. The literal Pandora’s box has been opened. We are going to see literal greed manifest

Saying there were no wars in this world just because there are no hito in it would be a mistake. If you look at how animals behave, they're just as violent as humans, or even more. Lions invade other males' territories and kill all their cubs. Chimpanzees have insanely violent wars, ripping each other's heads off. On top of that, pretty much every animal is territorial and fights others to take over territory. So what I'm trying to say is that, even if other animals evolved and became intelligent, that wouldn't stop wars from happening. Of course, we'll have to see what kind of explanation the author comes up with for why, in this world, wars are nothing but "myths" nowadays.
The explanation from earlier was that because cooperation was beneficial both within the species and between species (since a lion has different needs from a gorilla) large scale conflict never broke out. of course that’s an in-universe theory, who knows if that’s the truth of the matter or not.

@killari3211 I don't think it will be a tale with a true dark ending, for one simple and admittedly silly sounding reason: the interaction with the cat. The inclusion of those silly moments is showing to me that the mangaka doesn`t go full corruption of paradise story. Like you said, I think they will definitely dive deeper into that direction. Already in the pilot the Kemo wanted to execute him, so the tone range was from the beginning pretty grim. But as they include a lot of silly side stuff, I can`t imagine that they will destroy it all.

But let`s see, this is definitely one of the best mangas I am currently reading. And honestly, if the mangaka indeed releases the full darkness and corrupting influence of humanity, my respect to them for pulling through. Too many stories go "And the power of friendship saved everyone" (which can be really great, but only if done right).

This manga's tone is always giving me ghibli vibes, I expect to grim topics but also a series of lighthearted moments to balance it out.

We're lucky he didn't land on an insect-based planet or society.
Ants wage war, and I doubt humanity ever waged war like ants do.
Scouting, formations, withdrawals.
Chemical warfare, biological warfare, enslaving, manipulating genetics...
They do it all and they don't play fair.

I'd say there ain't any way they've never had conflicts before. As long as scarcity, incomplete information, unenforceable commitments, and irrational decision-making exist, there will always be conflict, regardless of what you are. Being sapient only means you're capable of conducting more organized conflicts, like wars.

Guess the Hito will unfortunately actually cause wars and destroy the current peaceful world, even if we want to prevent it
Best he can do is to build his harem and run, we already have the cat and the gorilla, who is next?
I mean, if Doctor Drill and Minister Ham don't eventually get to visit the mothership, I'd be very surprised.

It really is seeming like the inhabitants of that world are innocent and naive - even their history of wars is nothing more than old fables to them.
Alternatively, perhaps their attitudes during war were so grotesque and immoral, that they don't even dare to acknowledge them, sorta like Germany and WWII (but on steroids). :thonk:
