Is it me, or is it getting a bit bogged down in this story arc?

The novels are like, entirely chronological, so over there this arc is one hell of a callback to far earlier a day than it claims here (at least I'd assume this resolution for that particular skelly knight is there- the translations I've read stop at the events just barely before this (beast kingdom, up to day 107, so I can confidently say that fight being day 108 is complete bullshit), which thoroughly pissed me off since I only started reading at all bc I wanted to get ahead and skip this long-ass arc, & the novels are fucking exhausting lmao)
This feels like the first instance where the manga version- which has done a damn good job of keeping things moving compared to the written versions- has harmed itself by omitting something that was important enough to need a flashback to later. We just barely got out of a pointless fight in a long arc, now we're jumping back to an even more pointless fight from when they were clearing dungeons for fun bc Haruka wanted to level up... just move the fuck on already please...

It's explained that it's a fighting style where you keep the (much smaller) blowgun & all of its ammo inside of your mouth & load using your tongue so you catch your opponent entirely by surprise. Makes it far more impressive that someone with no tongue was managing to half-ass it by swapping weapons mid-fight, lol. And then they resolve the question of him utilizing a poison dart gun by making the fucking chicken eat it, turning the chicken into a shoulder-mounted cannon, because fuck it; at that point the author was way too focused on Haruka molesting the girls in his class to make much goddamn sense. The cockatrice & hydra he summons were encountered and defeated within like a paragraph each before instantly becoming integral parts of his fighting style (& extra characters to bounce his constant verbal shitposting off of like the manga-omitted Slimey), lol
