Sympathy does not equate to justification. The two of them are sympathetic in that they aren't the violently obsessive types looking to dominate and control the life of the person they're stalking; their motivations are out of a sincere sense of appreciation and gratitude, and an inability to simply voice their thanks. So they kept looking for the "right time" and it eventually morphed into affection and fascination. They're only sympathetic
because they're harmless. I mean hell, the FMC bought a stun baton just in case.
But the narrative is not justifying their actions. Even the FMC herself, especially after this chapter, admits that stalking is wrong and has no justification. She knows it's wrong, knows it's a violation of the MC's privacy and trust, and knows that it can't continue.
