I’ve loved this holiday as a kid! 6th of December.
Other than the sweets from my parents and grandparents, my dad’s company used to give bags full of sweets for each child of the employees. It was such fun finding what was in the bag.
These sweets used to last us until Christmas came.
But then again, I stole some from my little brother in secret. 😏

This is at least after 1949 since they ate currywurst, they already went through a winter and there's 0 way that Sieglinde didn't already celebrate it, and they aren't exactly isolated from the rest of the world since they have supply lines enough to get coffee and chocolate.

I think your assumption this is meant to be in the 1900s is erroneous. Considering very little else matches that, instead most things seem to be 1800s era, surely the more likely answer would be the author just didn't know it wasn't invented yet?

Like, do you really think the author was using currywurst of all things to indicate when this is set when they aren't even willing to name countries?
