People take awful care of goldfish irl, and especially during and after goldfish scooping. Irresponsible goldfish owners take an animal that has a natural lifespan of well over a decade and cut it down to less than a year. For any other type of pet, people would be up in arms about such atrocities. So not only should he be applauded for his entrepreneurial skills, but also for his basic decency towards another living being

conjecture: he caught all of the mermaids, fertilized their eggs and they produced big fish which were subsequently sold
I was wondering about those fishes in the boxes... wait . - he sold his children as food ? 😱

Oh, I think I got it. It's referencing cases where a carnival/festival is selling baby animals as prizes but said animals grow big. Dude was desperate because he needed money to properly take care of his ever growing (literal) mermaids, and managed to get rich.

So is it called responsibility, because he took it upon himself to get all the festival mermaids?
yes, and take care of them until they grow large.
Wait, what is it that he did to make himself a "young, genius "? Selling mermaids?
Did he sell fish, or sell mermaids?
definitely not selling mermaids, or else the mermaids wouldn't love him so much , and the title 'responsibility' wouldn't make sense. we don't know what his specific genius entrepreneur plan was. but he made it work out of desperation

those are probably just random fish meant to feed the giant mermaids. because if they were mermaids' children, they'd probably be goldfish size like at the festival
