Yeah I think the mangaka made a mistake here.

Sure, this is the same arc he keeps writing, but it really paints the pro boxers as completely disgusting, treating a "newbie" like this, just for their own egos.

This entire arc should've been him working bags and being taught as someone talented but totally new to the sport. Probably not fitting for a shounen street fighting manga, but truer to life than this.
