Yeah right, as if Yuu couldn't have beaten the shit out of him. It seems inconsistent to me, maybe it was an emotional block? Who knows.

Yuu is a pretty emotionally stunted/fragile guy. He doesn't know how to deal with situations like this. The karate prick practically jumped him and he was flooded with a bunch of different thoughts and feelings just trying to piece together what was even happening. He was already weirded out by the situation with Shougo and he thought this was a step to reconcile with him, but then he had the carpet pulled out from under him and now he feels Shougo's reputation is somehow at stake because of his failure. To me it didn't seem like he forgot how to fight or anything, just that he was flustered with the situation and got injured from a cheap shot.

@noreiz Bro you deadass have a chainsaw man pfp if youre gonna talk shit then talk shit but dont make me cringe

@lastcarpet Man at the end of this day this manga is just unrealistic, lmao I've done kickboxing for 3 years and you dont just get your ass beat one sidedly because youre put in an awkward position. Also this nigga Yuu literally fights on the streets, like he should be the last person to get caught up in some fantasy "aura" and get his ass beat. To be fair tho he definitely was flustered but thats just butterflies and shit ya know, you'd think he would be used to it after fighting random gangsters for fun

@asianskill bro how is that even an argument, this situation is completely different. Yuu wasnt even jumped he literally knew he was going to be fighting so its his fault for not keeping his head screwed on straight

So, this is supposed to be unrealistic. I don't know since I'm an stranger to thug life, even if i want to argue that this are japanese thugs I don't know how they think either.

Maybe the author should know better? He should've mentioned some experience in that regard, or the lack of it.

In any case, @StickyTar you're being too hard on this. It's just a manga, if it upsets you I'd recommend you to drop it.

Think of it like this: If things like environmental factors don't matter, why do professional sports leagues have teams play at home and away? Sports matches and, obviously, fights have to take place SOMEWHERE — you just don't understand how significant the psychological effect the environment you do something in might have on you
If you're fighting in an unfamiliar to yourself environment, filled with faces you don't recognize, while also suddenly having the obligation to spar thrust on you — of course you'd be taken by surprise
Yuu went to the dojo because he was expecting Shougo to reconcile with him, not have a sudden fight with the top student there
It goes without saying, but it seems Osada is the strongest one at Hakusenkai
You mentioned that it doesn't make sense for Yuu to be "caught off-guard" in a fight, since he supposedly always fights in the streets like you said — you're forgetting the fact that people change their mindset depending on where they are
At school, you're in the mindset of "studying" or "learning" — not getting into gang shootouts or whatever
Similarly, at work, you're thinking of working and making money
At home, you're thinking of resting or relaxing
It's only in the streets where it's more appropriate to have that "danger-wary" mentality you're talking about
Yuu is always ready for a fight out on the streets, but he wasn't expecting to suddenly get bloodied up in a supposedly honorable place like a karate dojo

Yeah, thats what people don't get. The story isn't inconsistent... It's rather realistic. I'd say Yuu is a good representation of feeling what you only see in yourself. He's the one experiencing strength now and with his emotions he may fall out of place frequently. He's getting better, but still.
