Whenever a character has telepathy as a core plot element in a story the author always makes most everyone completely twofaced and vile to everyone around them, but that feels so far from my experience. Im not, and I highly doubt most others are constantly just tearing down everyone around them (especially friends) or thinking the opposite of what they say.

Especially in highschool but even beyond I feel like 90% of thoughts would just be insecurities and stress. I can’t tell if these authors are just super biased about society, or are themselves total dicks so they assume everyone else is too.

It's for the idea that mind reading isn't a great power to have.
They, the writer, choose to show these negative points in a person's mind, not only to show this ideology, but to contrast the good thoughts of the love interest. To make them stand out more.

@DarkLordAlfie I mean you live in the right place or have the right environment and people can be REALLY two faced. Lots of people where i live are super racist and judgmental. To be fair they say so much thinking its clever or not realizing how bad they are that it could well be the same inside their heads as outside. Internal double speak would be odd but completely possible.

Still most places and people shouldn't be quite as snarky. Lotta shifty people but everyone has good and bad floating around in their thoughts. I'm more confused by how simplistic the insides of peoples heads are depicted. I have atleast 3 or 4 different things going on at any given time just as a matter of course, but these mind readers almost always get a single word or line out. I mean i know its easier to treat it like speech but the inside of your head isn't bound by those same conventions is it? So do all psychics only hear a little of what is thought? Is that why its all negative?

Sadly thats real life. Two faced people are more common than one may think especially among racist and other bigots who are sometimes ignorant to how vile their opinions or thoughts come across

She’s lucky she has a indifferent personality. By that I mean she doesn’t really care what people think she will just do what she wants. Or at least I’m asuming she’s like that cause I am. If people don’t like me I don’t really care. Unless it’s honest advice I won’t listen. But anyways you want that if you are a mind reader cause you just don’t give a fuck.
