I think the story of Cinderella can actually be a very good choice, it can be seen as a story of abuse.
So, Cinderella could actually be a high ranked, talented, smart and kind noble kid that has potential of be great, perfect even in her studies but her stepmother and daughters can't compare to her talent, so they pretend she died with her father, lock her up in the house and have her clean and work like the house attendants. The fairy godmother could be an aunt that discovers that she is alive and tries to help her get out discreetly by helping her go to the ball of another high ranked young noble that's looking for a wife.
Ok, here ends my rant, thanks for reading ig.

Disney/Hollywood execs and their scriptwriters be like:

Seriously, how many times have you heard of an awesome story being dragged through all sorts of red tape, looking like a hollow shell of its former self?

Could make it aimed to a more adult demographic. The father could be a tyrant and the next in line be incompetent. So the Male Lead usurps the lordship to bring peace to the land as the story's B plot.

The A plot would be the mid rank noble girl has higher than usual Mana, perhaps higher than the lord's even. It would be perfect to make her the future lord's wife then... and maybe the mana could also be how they find out that she's the chosen lady (maybe the ball was a masquerade ball so they can check the candidates' personalities instead of just their looks). Meanwhile the young lord had a magic item that reacted to the girl's great mana and they use it to find her again.

Edite: could even say that it's a land far far away.
