Remember that knight that got uppity and harmed Rosemyne in that trombe incident? Well he should have smiled, did his job while plotting and waiting for the opportunity to arrange an accident for Rosemyne in a way her death couldn't be pinned on him. Or use it to frame one of his enemies for it thus killing two birds with one stone. Sadly he got too emotional and it cost him his life.
or used it as an excuse to spread a rumor that Ferdinand is a pedo and that’s why he’s protecting Myne. Veronica certainly would’ve approved of throwing some mud on him.

For a moment It looks like a horror manga
That's the perpetual duality of Ascendance of a Bookworm. At times you get a heartwarming slow buildup of industry, relationships and magic worldbuilding. At other times you get horrifying abuses against human dignity and culture shock at the sheer barbarism of Yurgenschmidt that hides behind the noble elegance.

I think it pretty evident that Myne is aware of the consequences regarding the villagers' involvement with the mayor's scheme but is unwilling to act because she is too "soft" and can't stand the idea of being the one responsible for someone's death even if they are a criminal.

While most people are less empathetic about it, in that they would immediately condemn him to death without a second thought, for someone like Myne from the peaceful modern era it weighs more heavily on her mind and gives her a guilty conscious.

Case in point with what Benno brought up, in that the Head Priest has given Myne a lot of leeway about how she will go about solving the situation instead of defaulting to severely punishing everyone involved without discrimination as per regular Noble circumstances to uphold their honor. He instead offered her a method/suggestion where only the mayor would be brought down through a scheme, but it overall doesn't fix the problem with how the people of Hasse view the orphanage and the orphans.
It comes down to a major modern mindset struggle with reconciliation between justice and mercy. People get so afraid of not doing harmful justice to the few that they allow harmful injustice to the many. I like how Kazuki addresses this by setting up the nobles as brutal abitrators of extreme retaliatory justice, and Myne as the one who wants to avoid killing people.

It reminds me of some old story about a powerful abitrator of justice letting his innocent son pay for the crimes of others so that his son can choose who gets off the hook. I think as long as I'm here I'll struggle to remember their names hmmm... :thonk:

Flowering offering is…not necessarily illegal but highly frowned upon

in fact, Fran’s last master was basically banished from noble society for laying with a gray priest, at which point she k*lled herself.

she was also a monster so dont Feel too bad about it.
I think she was Christine

But i KNOW Arno is jealous of Fran because Fran is the one she would lay with (Fran didn't want to)

Edit: i stand corrected, it was not Christine.

The wording is a bit uncertain so I’ve seen people argue that Arno was jealous and that Arno was also a victim who viewed it as an act of love and was mad that Fran didn’t appreciate it too
