I came to the comments to post the explanation, but good to see other fellow bookworms in here with the knowledge.Love the parallels between Heidi and Josef and Myne and Lutz. This is basically their future if they get married lol
also for those wondering about the ink,
it has to do with the elemental affinity of the materials. Each object has some trace of fire, water, wind, earth, life, light, and darkness in it And that affects what color it turns into. There is a way to test for this but it requires a crazy expensive magical tool so all they can really do is rely on trial and error
Your powers of chemistry hold no sway in this world of MAGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC! !!!!!!!Chemistry Myne, chemistry! (I see your note @Justking14 , but I'm a chemist at heart 💥)
I think Benno's arm just moves of it's own accord whenever Myne opens her mouth now
I’m just glad I remembered it right lolI came to the comments to post the explanation, but good to see other fellow bookworms in here with the knowledge.

A commoner and nobility can't get married easily, if at all, can they?.
It will get even harder in the future when she gets to be an Aub candidate.

well she’s not a noble yet lol but yeah, it’s kinda impossible for her and lutz to get married since her insane mana levels would make it impossible for them to have kids.
Well, let's not forget--she isn't really trying to drag the world into the future generally, she just wants books. That "I don't care why it happens just that it happens" attitude is how you have undevelopped shit holes like the one in this story in worlds were magic is real.
