Just want to point out we don't know what happened to MC's biological father. Did he die? Was he an abusive POS and got divorced? How long has it been just MC and his Mom?

A lot of different issues could build from those circumstances that we just don't know about yet. Bit unfair to judge MC with so little context provided.

Am I the only one here that thinks his step-sister's flowery words were laced with poison? She literally told him his feelings don't matter to her one bit, suck it up and stay at home so they can all pretend that they're a "normal family." It's pretty clear that she's used to playing the part of the perfect girl and in return gets anything she wants from her dad, and now his mom has started to pick up on the language her dad uses, unintentionally comparing him to his "perfect" step-sister.

I didn't have this exact dynamic at home growing up, but I can totally relate to wanting any excuse to get out of the house to avoid having to pretend everything's fine when it isn't and the emotionally destructive verbal jabs that can come at any time without warning, forcing you to always be on guard.
nah me too. I feel like the same about her words being sounds normal and nice but actually have a hidden edge inside.

So after chapter 1 I actually went ahead and read through the webnovel. (It has something like 1-2 volumes worth of material).

Thing is, the manga already failed the source here. The webnovel painted his interaction with the family quite differently - the whole point was that to not compare him to anyone for reasons that get more clarified later, his entire family is walking on extreme eggshells and this pissed him the fuck off. His sister is also quite aggressive towards him since she hates that he doesn't spend time with them, not the nice girl being portrayed here.

So the atmosphere being painted in the novel was more like Oregairu's middle section / season 2 of the anime, when they were having a falling out and the classroom atmosphere was absolute shite. An atmosphere that almost feels like you could choke in it.

In that regard, him running away to the restaurant made a lot of sense. The manga is being a lot more happy-go-lucky than the novels were implying. It's a weird tonal difference that makes none of this work very well anymore.

Though if you do manage to 'roll with it' and assume the family conflict is legitimate, it's an alright story. Nothing mindblowing, through.

What the fuck is this faggot's problem? I can see he isn't being mistreated, He had meals ready for him in the morning, all he had to do was sit down and eat. He wasn't even being compared to his sister, and later, HE GETS A PHONECALL FROM HIS MOM APOLOGIZING AND WORRYING ABOUT HIM!!! fuck this overly sensitive fuck.
What does this fuck wants? What does he want to achieve? Is he even being aware of how he's acting and how it affects everyone around him?
...his mom. He actually has a really good bond with his step-dad.

In his old family, he was abused by his dad both physically and emotionally. His mom defended him with all her might, and that's what lead to he and his mom divorcing his biological dad.

Now that his mom finally married a good man, they finally have a decent family, except the mom has become obsessively considerate about him. She does not admonish him, does not stress him, does not compare him to anyone, does not put any sort of pressure on him at all. So much so that it their relationship as mother and son has become this one big circlejerk of the mom trying to cater to his every beck and call no matter how small or big. If he said that he wanted a sportscar, his mom would probably find a way to get it. They can't even have small arguments as a family. It's as if everyone is walking on eggshells around him.

MC does not want that kind of extreme one-sided relationship. He wants to return back to being a normal mother and son.

Different to the novel, in the novel fml didn't say not to fall in love with her, also sister call mc senpai. Not brother
Also yes, this. Just like in Gimai Seikatsu, here the wording is extremely important. A Step-sibling calling the other a senpai and not onii-chan is a very important distinction in how they see the person. It's a plot point in practically all these sorts of step-sibling stories so the translator & manga author should be very careful.

Can anyone spoil me If Theres a twist like his sister is actually two-faced and is going to get the family against him or something ?

Because he has the best Asian family god could provide when It comes to siblings comparison and is acting extremely selfish because of his own delusions which makes me hate him rather than the family

The step-sister and the step-dad are both cool actually. It's the mom who is a bit coo coo.

Maybe the family are actually 100% pure evil psychotic sadists? That's the kind of subtlety I've seen in some stories where the MC can't stand being at home.

If you guys are upset by the "breakfast interaction"... just wait a couple of chapters and you'll hate him even more if they don't solve the arc on a single chapter :p
The manga is suuuuuuper toned down from the WN :S
But I'll read it regardless, it's a good story tbh.

He doesn't have a problem with his parents or step sister, and he doesn't think his mom was comparing him to his step sister either. He just finds the atmosphere at home very awkward and hard to be around, he also thinks that the family is better off without him. So he doesn't have anything against his family, he has something against himself. Also it's not like he's completely removed himself from them, at most he's spending an hour at this cafe other wise he wouldn't be able to use the excuse of walking home.

The whole chapter has enough hints that this is not the MC being "a faggot".
-What you said about his step sister(plus her telling him to go to sleep or saying the femc may be a slut)
-Mother/Step sister interaction
-His mother fucking gaslighting him about "not having too much friends let alone female ones"
If you mix with MC complex that you can easily spot(wanting to have good table manners, saying that he is almost another species than a popular male classmates,...) so of course there is a problem that the family would rather to pretend staying on his jail(House) will fix it and become normal

It's a foreshadowing. But it's not poison. She's just obsessed.

Before reading the comments I thought the sister was a bit superficial, as if she wanted everyone to play a proper role instead of trying to connect with him, that part felt alright for me then. But the rest of the family seemed more kind and caring which contradicts what you're saying so they failed there. Regardless, it's not that hard to roll with it by thinking he wants to avoid the sister and having an argument with his parents because of her.

i know everyone doesn't get the issue of this chapter of how he feels, but as someone who are basically a bit in the same situation as him (no, i don't have my parent remarried or something like that), i can relate

i think people are missing the point in that, yeah, the family are nice, they're not trying to compare him or anything, but you still can feel out of place especially considering how good your family is, it's kind of like inferiority complex, but also not at the same time, it makes you feel like anything you do won't be as good as your other family members are and it genuinely can feel frustrating

at times, these thinking would pop out on your mind "i can't make them proud" "anything i do would only be mediocre" "they deserve better than this", it's like a devil whisper that you supposed to not listen to but ended up listening to it anyway because of how often it whispered in your mind (and the character in this series don't have anyone to vent to)
While I agree, this kind of complex isn’t exclusive to composite families. You can have the same dynamic with blood-related siblings. He’s being an insecure little twat but it’s not really about his step family. I give him a break though, it’s okay to be an insecure little twat as a teenager.
