Fixed nowA direct translation of the chapter title would be "queen of the night." "Woman of the night" is a euphemism for prostitute.

Good observations, but I'm not sure how grounded the setting is meant to be. So far it feels very much 'unmoored in time' to me.the clothing and architecture as well as the technology (lack of phones and vehicles) suggested a time period when tanzania wasn't independent and the areas was under european powers though zanzibar (island in tanzania) itself was part of the omani empire before going under european control as a protectorate if we'll lowball it to be late 1800s
well it's evidently some time after the lightbulb was invented and before the 30s and is consistently there and the vehicles (later chapters) are somewhere around that time period so it's moored between the edwardian era and the great depression very consistentlyGood observations, but I'm not sure how grounded the setting is meant to be. The name Tanzania itself dates only to 1964, made by combining the names of the former British colonies of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Furthermore, tanzanite seems only to have been discovered in 1967.
Possible, but it is an exceedingly rare mineral, found only in a small area in northeastern Tanzania. As far as I can tell it was unknown prior to the 1960s.well it's evidently some time after the lightbulb was invented and before the 30s and is consistently there
