Wow, what a brutal surprise, finding his uncle like that. Eugen cut and run, dumping everything on his brother Otto, Alfred's father, but it's clear something broke inside him. He was sloppy and cowardly, but not an evil man. Still, it seems clear we are advancing the relationship between jeweler and maid.

By the end of this chapter, they seemed more like partners than master and servant.
