Hi, everyone! Thank you all so much for reading How to Capture Love by Tana Kanoka.

Like last time, I gave up on trying to do the author's afterword. But this time, I decided to translate it for those interested to read it, since I felt like it was something that deserved to be read. In the process of translating this, I found Tana Kanoka's Japanese Wikipedia article and it is incredibly detailed. In any case, here's the full afterword:

I recently quit my part time job. Just before the final chapter or so.

Even though my employer's pension was lousy... "when I'm working part-time, it's not good to be left with any regrets of what I could have done more when I leave."

My work started at 4:00 a.m. "But it was hard compared to balancing school work", even though work would be 5 to 7 hours, while school was only 5 to 9 hours... "it must be age..." "not!" "I was just sleeping!" "When I was a student, I slept through my lectures!" I'm sorry for the timelessness.

On the road to work, I walked through the circles of light coming from the street lamps. From the light I stood in then, there was another light just after. I think I've been drawing manga much like this. Even though I thought the world only went as far as the light that I'm standing in at that moment. Even if I already drew what I wanted to draw with my current work. I see the next light. I see what I want to draw next.

And so I hope you'll look forward to my next work.

Having been written in 2018, it's been a long while since this was written. Tana Kanoka's next work is Koi Gurumi (こいぐるみ), a rom-com which ran from 2020 to 2021 after 26 chapters across 3 volumes. Their most recent work is a manga adaptation of Aito Aoyagi's Once Upon a Crime (赤ずきん、旅の途中で死体と出会う; lit. "Little Red Riding Hood Finds a Corpse During Her Journey"), which also has a film adaptation on Netflix.

That was overly complicated. Author tried too hard to make it deep and instead we're stuck with a vague ending.

This was a nice read, it makes sense to move on from a fantasy but damn.. for it to be sentient like that and say that kinda stuff was kinda bittersweet in a way.

I'm just going to keep thinking that at the very least, he gave her her smile. Dunno what happens after that, but at least he both gained, and gave something in the end I guess?

I dunno, I'm just going to roll with the bits after the end that were never written were happy because that's what I'd hope for.

The whole thing really tanked the moment we found out she was hung up on a different guy. It overcomplicated the story into a series of one-sided loves. And the story didn't really need a second shitty girl in the first place: It was bad enough with the other one trying to hurt him.
