It's kind of a different problem, but I'm heavily disabled, and something that makes me really upset is when people try to 'soften' language and wind up a THOUSAND times more insulting. Like 'handy-capable' or 'differently able'? Absolutely insufferable. I mean obviously I don't want someone who's able to call me by terms that really are insulting, just.
Call me what I am! Don't try to soften things for your own comfort. Augh. Like I said, it's not really the same problem in language... but I think 'just being disabled is used as an insult' is pretty common.
That's part of why I really love getting to read this manga- even though I am not deaf, it brings me a lot of comfort to get to learn about the experiences of someone else who is disabled, all the way across the globe.
