The thing the brown-haired girl on page 5 is talking about—that the negative perception of the Deaf will lead to any new term for them becoming perjorative eventually—is a phenomenon that is actually much broader. The euphemism treadmill!

It's interesting, albeit unfortunate.

Ahh... this is really relatable, honestly. It's kind of a different problem, but I'm heavily disabled, and something that makes me really upset is when people try to 'soften' language and wind up a THOUSAND times more insulting. Like 'handy-capable' or 'differently able'? Absolutely insufferable. I mean obviously I don't want someone who's able to call me by terms that really are insulting, just.

Call me what I am! Don't try to soften things for your own comfort. Augh. Like I said, it's not really the same problem in language... but I think 'just being disabled is used as an insult' is pretty common.

That's part of why I really love getting to read this manga- even though I am not deaf, it brings me a lot of comfort to get to learn about the experiences of someone else who is disabled, all the way across the globe.

Thank you for your translation efforts!
