@HighStream Yeah, that was too funny. Normally you'd think it's the other way around. It's not like minors couldn't be employed, the rules just ought to be stricter in civilised places. Though if this story is taking place in the past, children working full days was exceedingly common (like it still is in many developing countries). However, very young wives (or husbands) wouldn't then be anything strange. It's merely all that particular oni's personal preferences.

I know we're not supposed to question the setup so much, but couldn't he have adopted her as his daughter instead of jumping straight to temporary wife?
That way, she can learn responsibilities without the expectations of being a maid/helper, joy and sorrow that was denied to her as a sacrifice, and what it means to be family, without it being extra weird.
