Possible, but then it would make no sense that they are not more concerned about her potentially surviving.

The whole argument about not investigating the dead squirrel was that magical beasts does not usually want to become human.
So even if they were wrong, it would not be a huge issue.
But a magical beast made from a human should more likely then not want too.
Unless there is some mental manipulation on top of the potential transformation shenanigans.
