I think you're onto something, where the theme of the whole series is that "when you take pulp heisei shoujo and swap the leads for a couple certifiable lunatics, very little changes."
What I was hoping for, and what the first couple chapters suggested to me, was that the joke was going to be "when you take the worst personality traits of shoujo lead archetypes, acknowledge them as unhealthy, and then dial them all up to 11, absolute chaos follows" where these two idiots would be pointlessly topping one another in craziness every week. I want to be able to root for Nemu to overpower Rindou through sheer determination and overbearing love alone, and I want her to learn nothing along the way because she's perfect just the way she is.
First couple chapters totally felt like they captured the stupid, manic energy of being Nemu in love, equally breathless and brainless, and I liked it a lot. I don't really want a story about how "actually Keippi's a decent but lonely guy that's unconditionally in love with the girl who groomed him into something that bores her," because that's super sad and I'm not great at turning off that part of my brain. I wanted him to be an obsessive idiot playboy who's easy to laugh at when all his usual PUA shit explodes in his face because of how unhinged his target is.
I'll still be reading and hoping to be pleasantly surprised by whatever this DOES turn out to be.
