Seems interesting. Transgender seems like a pretty safe assumption here for now. Cis people don't usually say that they're ideal body is specifically biologically female, where a literally identical looking body with male parts instead is not good enough, after all.

I guess this is Japan, though, so it's possible that it'll go some other direction, (Potentially due to publisher interference) but I'll just hope that's not going to happen. Because that would be really lame.

I mean, mc’s ideal self being a woman is kinda 50px font bolded flashing letters transgender so I’d say it’s yuri
You guys need to differentiate between idealistic fetishism and a desire for a change of identity. Wanting to be a girl to be Moe is different from wanting to identify and be gendered as a girl.
People can feel uncomfortable in their body and gender for reasons other than gender dysphoria, a condition that isn't limited or defined by this discomfort.

I'm not denying the trans view, everyone is free to see the work as they see fit, however, it's important to consider the intentions of the story and be open minded to consider the interpretations of others.

Also, I find it interesting to use such a setting to explore the way many men interact with Yuri, seeing it not as an expression of love, but as an idealized pure relationship that isn't limited by the expectations and norms imposed to men. Exploring the escapist nature of Yuri, while also talking about the way a man feel trapped in his gender can be cool

It's not that Japan doesn't recognize or understands trans people, it's just that in there authors and audiences recognize that people may want to change their gender for reasons other than gender dysphoria.
Remember everyone, gender it's not just something biological, it's also a social performance and construct

I'm actually sad this isn't futanari, I don't think I've ever seen a yuri series where MC is a futa yet sadly, Still coping for the day some chad creates one :aquadrink:
Many yuri fans in Japan believe that if one of the character has a penis the work is not Yuri.

This should have the yuri tag. This already has other chapters out, and it's clear what the intent is with this character and their feelings about themselves. Do the uploaders just change tags because of comments? Shouldn't they have access to the newer chapters first and base tags on that?

This series also has yuri as one of its official tags, so there was never a reason to tag this differently than what it is officially.

The author said on Twitter that the story isn't supposed to be Yuri

I know what the author said (that it looks like yuri but isn't exactly yuri), and that can be because she knows how the word "yuri" is used in Japan, and the expected reception to a trans character. I've seen this before. It can be a sensitive issue. She typically draws yuri as well, and this series is exactly like her other stuff.

The official release in Japanese tags the series as Yuri, and that is the release she sends you to as well. This should match those tags, and having read ahead, I think that would be appropriate for now. Whenever there is a character like this, tags and language always get mixed up or debated.

Some crossdresser x crossdresser and crossdresser x girl series are also tagged as a Yuri, we even have the tag "pseudo-yuri" in Japan. I believe that if the author said this isn't exactly Yuri, he's putting the work in the pseudo-yuri box, which makes sense, once that nothing in the story indicates that the main character wants to be a girl
