To be fair we get tumors and even cancerous cells all the time, the body just detects and nukes them usually. The Elderly have more issues with this course.

Additionally, a tumor is not always cancer.

This story did imply it was cancer because it implied "that was her last trip" but that's partially his assumption.

While it's a bit mystical in this case, I don't find it too odd int he context of this novel. Because she was presumably also receiving other treatment.

I suspect the translation would be closer to "the pill mush have helped heal her brain tumor"

if it was not then i'm wrong and it's just the author getting caught up. "whelp, it's magic I don't have to explain shit"

The only thing that breaks my suspension of disbelief is the instant effects normally implied with magic pill in chinese novels, which haven't been implied here.

So it's probably combination of translation and dramatic storytelling.
