Well, all of the weapons are Frankenstein contraptions to be fair: just look at the swords the men have with their gear hilts. Asha's rifle is one of the least offensive weapons here, especially in a magical setting where it makes sense to me that a magic gun would look different from real guns. There's no way I'm believing those swords have a reason to look like that.

The way that whole part is written makes me think it's a mistranslation, that it meant to say "Earth magic can now be used" or whatever.

Reminds me of Dynasty Warriors, where Zhuge Liang and his wife make flamethrower purely to fought off wild animals and never use it again in latter battles.

I guess similar thing with what people said about spears being good against cavalry, as if anyone of any kind isn't afraid of getting impaled by pointy sticks.
