Dandan was surely the second cultivation stage, the first villain in such cultivation manhua is usually at a higher stage than the MC before said MC gets a power up...
And yeah it's such a hassle when cultivation stages aren't understandable... I still try to understand what happened with the TL and how it's like this...

This is the cultivation realms I gathered by reading further:

qi gathering > true yuan/essence > jiedan / alchemy > nascent soul/infant / yuanying / body manifestation > god/divine transformation > tao enlightenment > feather transformation > fairy land

"dandan" did not become clearer, so removed it from my notes. I agree it makes sense the first villain to be at least 1+ above MC.
