@icekatze thing is that the readers seem to love these abusive male leads for some reason. for instance i'm reading this story Beatrice and in it the female lead is a princess who's kingdom was invaded, the invading prince imprisons her, kills her sister in front of her and the plans to kill her then decides to enslave her instead. later on he runs into her again but don't recognize her as a slave and orders her to heal his horse or he would kill her and somehow the other readers completely forget these things and just swoon all over him thinking he's the most romantic fucker on the planet.

Uhg... I dropped Beatrice shortly after healing the horse. If it had been a shounen, the prince's actions would have meant it was a revenge story, not a romance story.

I sometimes wonder about why abusive male leads is a trope. Perhaps it has something to do with the different ways people view injustice. In my experience, there are two main ways people react to injustice.
1: "This is horrible, I should work to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone in the future."
2: "This is horrible, I should be the one on top instead."

Perhaps the abusive male lead appeals to the second sort of mindset.

She was a slave before a princess so she didn't really care about becoming one again. She really didn't care about the country or her sisters because they didn't treat her right. The only reason He didn't kill her is because one of his subordinates said something. Usually, they kill the royal family of enemy nations. She cut her hair and stuff basically a Clark Kent disguise. Also, The stable boy who has a higher position than a slave reported it as her trying to poison it. She somewhat convinced him that she wasn't by saying she learning under the doctor. So he said You claim that you can cure him, if the horse dies she dies. Thinking that she was lying. Other than that he never treated her badly in a way to hate him. He's really not abusive.

@kilisloe whether she liked the or not they were still family and her sister was murdered in front of her, the prince's friend wanted to rape FMC but the prince said no and wanted to kill her until he changed her mind. as for the horse part, the prince wanted to kill the horse and FMC was the only person willing to try anything to help and in return he threatens to murder her if she fails.

how can you defend this shit? how far does he have to go before you can consider him a bad person? does he have to rape FMC? torture her? go out hunting down innocent peasants in the countryside for fun?

Family or not she didn't care about them. They were scum.
I can defend him because he really didn't really abuse her like other ML usually do. besides the whole horse thing, He really didn't do anything to her. This Ml was straight forward and didn't resort to any type of manipulation. He basically has a stoic personality. Now if he was the type who would constantly shit on FL or bully her into it, it would be a different story. Don't know what's happening currently.
I need to catch up on Beatrice I'm like 8 chapters behind.

There are a lot of things I could say about Beatrice, but this isn't the comment section for Beatrice, so I'll refrain.

As for charm skills and casual mind manipulation, as someone who has experienced having their drink spiked, I can't say I appreciate the way mind manipulation is portrayed in stories like this. Especially everyone else in the story treating it as some minor oddity.
