For anyone wondering what the scar is...
Very likely she's intersex and that her mother died bringing her into the world so the doctors would've pushed for "corrective surgery" (aka genital mutilation) without any pushback.
If there was a slipshod job done it's very probable she was left with some really grievous scars that would warrant more questions than she'd be comfortable sharing with a group of school acquaintances.

@AllosaurusJei I think the theory that her scar is related to her mother's death is reasonable given what we learned last chapter, but why do you think she is intersex? Couldn't it have just been that the same event that killed her mother also hurt her? e.g. a car accident. There are plenty of reasons one might have a scar in the hip/thigh area.
