The author keeps teasing tropes and subverting expectations and honestly they’re so based for it. We’ve had the mean girl that was actually nice, the womanizer that was actually a coward, and now we have the childhood friend that was actually a girl. (Actually I kinda want it to still be a love triangle, that would be even more based.)
