As much as we wish that it means anything, nothing in this manga actually more than a one time use convenient plot propeller.

In the arc where the 1st elimination happens, we are deliberately shown that Karin's mom is "evil" she thinks her daughter will not be able to handle embarrassing herself when she fails. Till that point, Karin has problem performing in front of her, in fact, she gives her best performance there where she is completely in control of the stage. But fast forward and she actually has problem performing in front of her mom; even tho that's kinda been something she's been doing it all along.

The same with the president's introduction where he strong arms his son to rig the competition for one contestant stating he has to go against his sister because Aria will not budge or something

TL;DR
Characters(most if not all) are given traits on a whim based on whatever the author deems necessary for the plot specifically in that moment, even if it makes them inconsistent.
