Not true. What about the Black Widow who is notorious for doing so? A lot of female spiders are usually bigger than their male counterparts (sexual dismorphism) and WILL eat them if they wander too close, copulation or not. The little males have to resort to trickery or pheromones to get close and do the deed while they're distracted or incapacitated, after which, they have to skedaddle unless they wanna be dinner. Such is the case with the Black Widow and Desert spiders, respectively.
