Certainly, if he has the chance to take a non-monetary payment as an investment opportunity for additional income, then he has a good chance of coming out even more ahead than if he just charged her rent for the space.

This looks not like Axe-kun, but a LN promo.
It obviously didn't do well enough to get an extension on the Manga adaptation. It's a cutthroat world out there..

As for "trash"... Peeps gobble that stuff up like lines of columbian snow, and spend $$ on tat and merch around it.
May be Trash™ but it's Trash™ that sells .... and that's all there's to it and all the publishers care about.

I hate when authors are all willy-nilly with numbers. When the currency doesn't make sense, the society doesn't make sense; meaning, at this point, the fukn story doesn't make sense😑. She just used up most of her money (and still has installment payments left) for a pre-owned and UNUSABLE carriage. "Unusable" means, it's only good for scraps. So, the thing should've been dirt cheap. How she used all the money she had for the carriage is a mystery, ntm, that damn installment plan🫤. Her magic papers made her about 36 gold and 36 silver. The food she got earlier was only a copper or two (so, food/a copper is about a buck). Roughly, 1000 coppers is 1000 bucks, and, generously, I'm gonna say the UNUSABLE SCRAP carriage was 1000 bucks. If it's 10 coppers to 1 silver, she has 360 coppers just from her silver. If it's 10 silver to 1 gold she has 3600 more copper right there. That's 3960 coppers. Or, 3960 bucks. That carriage is no way in hell worth 4 grand! AND, SHE STILL HAS MORE TO PAY! See?! That's one big fukn plothole, all bcuz the author wants to cut corners and not do math! Now the gd worldbuild makes no fukn sense at a foundational level! Irritating😮‍💨.
