Because he knows Brigitte's spirit is actually legendary class.
He always have inferiority because his (off-screen) brothers are all better than him. He got engaged with Brigitte because he thought there's finally someone more pathetic than he is, so people will insult her instead of him. Also, Brigitte was originally Yuri's fiance (although it got cancelled before they got engaged because of the burning incident), so maybe he's in delusion he successfully NTR the guy praised as most talented. But then he found out she's actually an amazing person, so having her by his side will just make people compare and again comment on how he is inferior. He wants to dispose of her before anyone else realized it.

The church got special items. One of them is lens for seeing the spirit, which is used in spirit contract ritual.

He had collusion with a high ranked priest, so he can secretly borrow the item. This is despite the church's regulation not allowing the items to be used by outsider. He just want to see what kind of pathetic spirit Bridgette had, but found out it's a phoenix.

That priest is the same person who declared Bridgette's spirit is "nameless", so besides for his breaking rule, he later also got punished for his carelessness in misidentifying.

Maybe because he knows something that she herself doesn't know, like her spirit's true identity, which probably is the highest of high ranking spirit? And that's why he hates her: because his pride got crushed. He's a prince, a royalty, someone who's among the highest status in the country. If someone else of lower status got higher rates than him, of course he's gonna get jealous and won't allow it. That's why he's gonna do everything to destroy her, mentally and socially first, and if those ways don't work, he will go in a physical way: murder. It's politics as usual.

I mean, he seems to be really scheming in general... (Just personally enjoys manipulating ppl? Slowly pulling the strings to eventually do something bigger like a coup?)
Does seem a little odd to me that he'd let go of Brigitte if he's aware of her power (strong pawn in his game), especially since he put so much time into her*
Though there could be something very specific about her spirit that would interfere with his plans?

Idk, seems contrary to spend so long with her and then try to be rid of her, but I'm glad of the catalyst allowing her to be her authentic self again ¯⁠\⁠⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠⁠/⁠¯

He's the same as Brigitte: he was bending over backwards trying to please the malicious prince. He even risked his whole noble family's reputation to fulfill the prince's utterly nonsensical request. We have seen Yuri doesn't give the prince any face if the prince is trying to play his petty games. The prince is just a prince, not the king, so there's no reason to go so far. Nival is water under the bridge already.
