If you go back to 5 it's explained that Potta prioritized helping his family by working in the fields than studying & ranking up his [Language Comprehension] skill. Our MC only speaks Japanese, but that skill basically functions as a Babelfish -- if both parties have it you can communicate without issue even if you're speaking different languages. So the astonishment here is that Potta essentially had a spontaneous gain of a skill.

That said, even I was moved a bit by the slice-of-life-with-friends events of this chapter; far more moving, and far more capable of moving than a shounen author beating you over the head with nakama power.
