They really didn't need to kick him in the first place, just use him for planning and advising and other duties and have him sit out the frontline activities. I don’t think he had ulterior motives, but the kick was pretty dumb. That’s always the case with these types of stories. Eigas’ skills and circumstances seem similar to Red’s in Banished From the Hero’s Party. But at least that story made it clear from the beginning that kicking Red out was a mistake.
