They’ve been hidden prior to this chapter I think. They may have just grown in. Or clever angles

Edit: double checked back to the last time she transformed and early on. First time there was nothing, after the party escape when she can’t turn back she now has nub spikes. They just now grew in during the latest chapter

I’m gonna guess it’s all lies, like she says at the end of that dream sequence. The handful of scenes we’ve seen of her mother make it plenty clear that she couldn’t care less about her.

More than likely, it’s the mom either being manipulative or the brothers just spouting some bullshit

The (real world) mother excluded and hated on the daughter, why would she act like she cares now? I hate these 'it was all a misunderstanding' bits with shitty family members like her and the brother. Sure the dad and brothers (and grandpa) in the fantasy world are terse as well, but they had enough moments of kindness with MC that she still greatly liked them, and regretted having to run away originally - she has nothing like that with her "real" family.

Drain their pockets through the healthcare system forever.
