Well I finally caught up, seems like I’m 5 months late to the party though.
Ah yes, something something the taboo of disregarding the sanctity of life and death, blah blah blah acceptance of the human condition, wow, so deep, such philosophical :dogewow:
This is fucking hilarious, idk why that one fella thought it was stupid

There's a lot (all?) of the novel available on amazon now. Translation looks a bit MTL, but if so, it's pretty good MTL. (I.e. I'm enjoying it and recommending it.)

I'm not sure if it comes across completely here...
  • The "resurrection" is very brief, just a few moments. And it's resurrection at the moment of death, so the person reappears in whatever state they were at that time. At best the ritual allows someone to say goodbye to the loved one.
  • More normally (or at worst), you would get what happened here... In which Armel's moment of death was horrible, half fused into a monster by Galetus, with the remnants of her consciousness pitifully calling for her father as she died in his arms.
  • The massive sacrifice here is required because originally it's something that only the first saint (Galeria) would be able to do. Galeria would not have had to commit such a sacrifice -- though the cost would still be high, and the results just as likely to be horrible.
  • Raniel was carrying two different arms: 1) Galetus' arm which he had cut off; and 2) Galeria's arm which he got from the tower. The arm used here was Galetus' arm which Draka had managed to take from him. (Raniel, being careful, had Galeria's arm more carefully secured.) (IDK whether Galetus is now down to zero arms. Maybe she did/will regenerate it/them.)
  • Raniel accepting the deal: Because she's pragmatic, and having Draka as a tame servant would be incredibly useful -- a highly valuable weapon. And the price has already been paid. And she does give him fair warning -- Draka is just too determined to 'see his daughter again' to be swayed by any argument.
  • The Stars are completely neutral, neither good nor bad. Basically just a trading force.
  • The Delohim church worships the Stars as god(s), but that's just the Delohim church. Most people (including most mages) don't see them that way. (Kind of like how a religion might worship the Sun as a god, while most people just see it as the Sun.) E.g. as has been mentioned, the Delohim church carries very little weight in the north -- and after this mess it will carry zero weight there.)
  • BTW, Raniel can't reveal what he learned at the tower -- the contract that Cardi made long ago applies to Raniel as well. That contract seems to censor/hide information about the past heroes from the world. The only reason that Raniel was able to learn was because he entered the tower, and fulfilled certain conditions (intentionally) built into the contract.
