Oh, just a correction, the family isn't a cheapskate at all. It's just that the world has advanced to a state where they can't find any more clothes and others stuff in their taste.
And instead of moving along, they decided to keep all the antic they have and use it.

If someone was willing to make new dress, shoes, etc. in the style of centuries ago, they will pay more than the full price without problem.
On the contrary, they refuse to buy modern clothes because the material uses are cheaper than in the past.

I didn't want to say that her clothes were new. Just that if someone was willing to make it, they will buy it. But since no one was doing this kind of clothes anymore, they use the old one.

anywaya, while I like this story, a DUKE would have far more power than a princess in societies like this lol. They generally have their own family troops//army for one as well as more of a say in political affairs. Do wish stories that try and have a ducal family get crapped on did a better job explaining how that would even be possible. There is a reason kings couldn't be full on tyrants, especially to nobility, in human history. When they would do so, they would be coup'd.

The clothes cannot be make because it was been prohibited by the kingdom 10 year ago for dangerous in healthy. That mean the clothes is should be cheaper for it's was not an antiques but just an plain old ugly clothes. The tailor also will not make it for been prohibited by the kingdom and not enough profit unless it was custom make but the family not make the new clothes but give the old grandma clothes just because it was fit with the MC.

New thing is always expensive than old with the exception few.
