huh!?!?
am i like blind or did this come out of nowhere?
As I am reading this for the first time, I can tell there were hints
Like when he barged into the infimary like he owns the place and calls her "Mayoi-chan" while looking all flustered in chapter 8, or how in chapter 9.2 he says that he's in love with someone who'll never notice him, which is a code talk for either a severe friendzone or age gap

Our boy has zero internalised homophobia, huh?

We didn't really have a single moment of pushback against his own feelings.

He just goes with the flow

Good on him.

Edit: He doesn't even seem to have a super clear idea of where he stands.
"Ok, I think I like him, but I need to confirm a few other things, anyway, so I'll just let that simmer, and stir it occasionally.
Its just so dang busy!
...
Alright, fine. I'm not supposed to do this for you if we're not dating, and we're not dating, what ARE we?"
"I don't know, either..."
"Well, that's something at least! Fist pump"

I don't think it's so bad.

Most manga about guys falling in love don't involve much communication, so when it happens at "uncertainty" it seems pretty abrupt.

It's neat to see that becoming a not-uncommon, though.
Conversations in BL are like queer flirting, was in the USA, in high school, in the 1980s-90s. Three years of glances and freaking out.

Office Worker BL has a lot of conversations, these days. Lots of it is actually drawn by guys, and they deal with realistic stuff, and it feels so much like '90s queer media, it's surreal for an old head.

We had to sit down and have a conversation with our kid that homophobia and stuff are real, because she never saw anything bad happen to my ex and I. "There are people that hate Mom and I just because we're both women." "Really".

I was slightly confused when I watched MaIruma for the second time, with the English dub, this time*, and the very few lines that are heteronormative were gone. That makes a later moment (HUNDREDS of chapters) not land as well, or at least change meaning.
"I wonder why? Hmmmm... Oh, yeah. Not a lot of western kids would believe a 14yo kid would say "a boy and a girl" when defining the word "date".
It would be confusing and seem unrealistic.

I'm way too high

*I recommend randomising languages when rewatching things. Iruma has great casting for the Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. I think the English is my lowest rank for casting and performances. Clara's actor kills it, though.
Deadpool movies are so funny in Japanese and Central American Spanish! Castillanos? Weak lead actor.

MaIruma manga is way better than the anime. Different vibes. Different canons, even.

It is so wildly, exponentially queer in the manga, at this point.

All genders swoon before Iruma by the time he's a 2nd year. It's a known thing. Pudgy rizzler.

Side character dude constantly telling our boy to stop pulling him into the harem, and that is not an unreasonable accusation.
