So do the inactive carrier bodies not need sustenance? They said they'd be back but if something stops them they could risk his sister dying. Also, I wouldn't really trust the firefighter guy. While the objective of the group is to provide people safety, it is also to round people up to avoid the spread of the infection. Thus, the firefighter guy may not hold true to this promise, since a part of his job is to get people together.

Given that this manga isn't really logic-based, though, this could all just be ignored in service of moving the story along.

Animals, when hibernating, enter state of torpor which essentially significantly reduces energy consumption. While humans normally don't have this, with this virus, it might be a good reasoning for the story to allow those people to still survive for weeks with minimal daily energy consumption which will primarily be obtained from fat. But this is really the best answer I have if you want to somehow make it somewhat scientifically realistic. Considering what the author did several chapters ago, I doubt he was thinking about this.

If you say to not trust the firefighter because you support the MC's decision back several chapters ago, then I guess sure. But in my opinion, what the MC did back then was, not only morally wrong, but also very risky and wouldn't have succeeded had it not for them being in a 'shonen manga'.

Yeah, I doubt the author was thinking that far ahead. But I appreciate the explanation.

I do not support the MC's decision; it made little sense and endangered a whole host of people.

Regarding my distrust for the firefighter: it's partly nested in who he's following. One of the goals of the group he belongs to is to round people up and establish a "safe" zone. People who have not been bitten will be free to move about and contribute, while those who have been infected are to be isolated. This makes sense. As a survivor, though, you can't help but wonder if the zone has the secondary objective of keeping the "possibly infected" contained to the city. What if orders come down to keep people there indefinitely? People on the outside would certainly not want to interact with those who were exposed to the epidemic.

It also seemed convenient to me at the time I was reading this that this firefighter guy offered the MC the option to join, given that he caused a major disruption in their operation and endangered many lives. Who would want to take in someone who fails to follow orders and puts his interests over the collective?

I'm probably overthinking it though. This manga hasn't proved to be the most logical or thought out.
