Alright, it goes fast, yes, but it's also quite details-heavy tbh. So:
1. Danielson wanted to be kissed in his feet and for everybody at the party to recognize his greatness, do whatever he says, yadda yadda yadda.
2. Somebody poisoned Jean-Baptiste, to ensure that even if Charles-Henri refuses to kill the lion, nobody else does this.
3. Charles-Henri, according to that prediciton, didn't kill the lion, but also didn't openly disgrace his family, as he used the King's name to protect himself.
4. As an unofficial way of getting back at our young Sanson, somebody dropped the bible at de Chartois' residence and immediately ratted him out.
5. De Chartois obviously blamed his bastard son for everything, as to avoid execution. And as it's not even his full-blood son, he might avoid any repercussion whatsoever.
6. Now, Jean understands how it's all connected and - being beaten and r*ped repeatedly - lashes out at Charles-Henri, who's already hurt, because HE has to take Jean's life with his own hands.
Nicely done, I'd say. I wonder though - is it really JUST out of pity or is there some greater will behind trying to disgrace de Chartois' name? Only time can tell.
