Why the hell is Charles doing this? Wasn't he the one that was supporting his sister since the beggining? The one who led her to do what she most loved? Just what the hell hapenned to Charles? I used to love him so much

He strayed from his path and his ideals along the way. Ever since he got used by now mrs du Berry and "became a man", then it all went sideways, with him indulging on life again. While enjoying his stay on earth is generally a good thing, that's what derailed him, I think. That and growing up, getting a family, getting to know intimacy etc.

It sullied Charles-Henri, who could only think of revolution as long as he hated his fate, his life and the world. It's ironic, how he and his sister changed places. Ironic, but avoidable. Sadly, with him being as old as he's now, I doubt her can go back to being an adamant idealist.

Charles-Henri saddens me. It's like... like you can't give him anything. You can't give him love, can't give him respect, can't give him status or it will break him. He can only feel bad things or else he over-indulges on the good ones. Now, he's not merely a pawn of the system, he's somewhere in-between his old self and an actual perpetuator of that system.

Is he gone? Probably. And well, we know he's going to cut the heads of both Marie-Antoinette AND mrs du Berry, so nobody knows how he develops beyond this duel. There's no way of him and his sister ever seeing eye-to-eye now, but maybe, just maybe Monsieur de Paris can open his eyes again.
