I understand Antoinette wanting to be free, herself, and all that
But her peeve with du Barry is just so gratuitous and foolish. Woman came from nothing, had to work her ass to get here, and the Princess of Austria and France puts all her problems at du Barry's fault, that's just so rabid. Besides, she just got this gripe because some aunties she doesn't like said it. If not for that I could fall behind Antoinette.

I think she's treating it like regaining some freedom she lacked, before Marie-Joseph showed her "the way". And mrs du Berry is a low-hanging fruit, because she's not from the world of nobility and doesn't seem to be able to properly counter Marie-Antoinette.
Still, I think her aunties' approval came second. She started being rude, THEN she saw that some people like that too and decided to go with it. Arrogant, a bit childish, but well...
